Publishing performance and presentation

Pageworks is both a collection of artists’ publications as well as a collaborative performance. A temporary workshop in the semi-public space of a copy shop in Vienna serves not only as a production site and place for the multiplication of the loose elements of the publications but also as a showroom for the whole experiment. During the nocturnal opening hours of the digital printer in self-service mode the participating artists reproduce their individual contributions from master copies which circulate in the digital space and bind them into an analog limited edition. The starting point for Pageworks is the assumption that in the post-digital age original and copy are no longer conceived as temporally or hierarchically sequential rather as parallel, simultaneous, and equal—original and copy have merged into a new entity which has become a decisive engine for art production, be it in the digital or in the analog realm.
